New Hongkongers Festival is a design proposal to have an annual festival hosted by the migrant domestic worker communities to celebrate their traditional and modern cultures, build important social networks across ethnic groups and connect with the broader Hong Kong community. My main contribution was the design of physical elements for the festival. It utilizes cardboard because that is what the migrant workers use on Sunday mornings to sit on with an overlay of the red-white-blue bags that originated in Hong Kong. Bringing these two materials together hope to symbolize unity across all members of the Hong Kong community. The slotted design is meant for the physical elements to be constructed and deconstructed as needed in order to move the festival from different locations.
